Community Outreach - AZ Art Alliance“ENRICHING LIFE THROUGH ART” – ALLIANCE COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMSCommunity Outreach is a key element of the Arizona Art Alliance Mission. So many of the Alliance Art Organization Members participate in programs – “Enriching Life Through Art”. The Arizona Art Alliance teams with our member organizations to help provide art instruction, supplies, materials, display opportunities and monetary donations to develop and implement local art education and mentoring outreach programs. Thousands of volunteer hours are freely given by our members to support these programs. Programs assisted by the Alliance benefit students of all ages and levels of ability, including veterans, special- needs individuals, seniors, life- care residents, Alzheimer’s patients, and at- risk youth. There are many other programs run by the individual leagues without requesting Alliance funding, as well. Artists across the state are very generous with their time and talent.
Supported programs are listed below: “The Art of Healing” ARIZONA ART ALLIANCE VETERANS OUTREACH PROGRAMSIn 2. Arizona Art Alliance implemented a program to give back to our veterans through art instruction by professional artist volunteers. The Art of Healing” – The passion of Arizona Art Alliance Founder, John Fontana and a proud program series by the Alliance coordinated with four of our member organizations. The programs for veterans began with donations and grants from various sources, including the Arizona Department of Veteran’s Services, and are managed and coordinated by Alliance volunteers.
Our mission is to offer the highest quality fine art instruction, art supplies and logistics to all veterans who participate in these classes. The classes begin with classical drawing and painting then branch out to include other genres. Four locations offer a wide area of convenient locations with a wide range of professional artist instructors available. Professional and Award- winning Artist, Ms. Rita Goldner, has organized the curriculum, volunteer instructors, art supplies and logistics for the first program which accommodated as many as sixteen veterans per class, two classes per month in its first months of implementation. Feedback from class participants has been extremely positive. An immediate success, this first program continues at the Arizona Alliance Headquarters offices and workshop in Tempe.

This program is managed by the Desert Sage Artists and has been ongoing for almost twenty years in partnership with Life Care of Paradise Valley. Art classes for seniors, disabled and Alzheimer’s residents are lead by compassionate professional artists.

Extra Special Art volunteers have been active for many years in the Cave Creek Unified School District offering art experiences and instruction to special- needs children of all ages in the Life Skills, Positive Learning Center and high school Special Education classes. Students with physical and intellectual challenges participate in a personal- success oriented program and benefit from expression through art. They participate in shows and exhibitions of their work. They are exposed to different art materials as well as cultural and historic art and craftsmanship. Desert Artists also shares the resources, materials and volunteer work with the Scully Learning Center Foundation.
Scully offers art and craft instruction to special- needs participants of all ages. They also have other activities such as gardening, animal care, music and more.
Some of our special- needs students have been with us from first grade through high school and are now continuing to participate at the Scully Learning Center. Founded by Art League West and now managed by the Pebble. Creek Art Club, this all volunteer- run program is offered to children in the Avondale area. Both after- school classes and summer classes are taught by the professional artist volunteers which offers a whole new world of artistic creation opportunities for the students.
The volunteers arrange exhibitions and shows for the children complete with recognition receptions and awards. It is such an inspiration when the children and their families see the children’s work on display! As with other programs, various art media are taught, giving the children a wide variety of artistic experiences. The program offers a safe, friendly and creative environment for students after school and during the summer break.
